The Barnes maze model is widely used by neuroscientists for evaluating the effect of novel chemical entities on the cognitive deficit model for diseases, like AD, and also to determine the effect on retention of learning and spatial memory of a mild traumatic brain injury. This function is based on the ability of the animal to run away from an aversive environment. The fundamental purpose of the Barnes maze model is to evaluate the potential of a rodent to recognize the location of a target zone with the help of an arrangement of distal visual cues located around the testing area. The Barnes maze model was first developed by Dr. The 15th day was the probe phase (the last phase), in which animals were subjected to the trial and TL was measured, using Anymaze software (Stoelting Co, Wood Dale, IL). The mouse was allowed to explore the maze for 10 s and then returned to its home cage. If an animal failed to enter the enclosed arms within 90 s, it w'as gently pushed into one of the two enclosed arms, using a glass beaker, and TL w'as recorded as 90 s. Then, the animals were allowed to explore the maze, and TL was recorded manually. This phase was followed by a training phase (14 d) in which animals were treated with the respective treatments. In the acclimatization phase (1 d), animals were transferred to the maze and allowed to explore it for 5 min without administering the drug. The experiment was set up in three phases.
